Over the weekend on Sunday, the green terraced Kisubi Technical institute play ground in Entebbe hosted the 3rd corporate Wood ball circuit and Kisubi Corporate Wood ball Club capitalized on their home advantage to claim their third Corporate Wood ball title in a row. The men’s team comprising of 2016 Wood ball Most Valuable Player (MVP) Tayebwa Rodgers and experienced trio of Bukenya Godfrey, Mutebi David and Ssemata Raymond tallied a total of 195 strokes to win their third Corporate Wood ball title in a row.
Rodgers Tayebwa claimed the Singles category with 40 strokes and set a new Men’s record for the least strokes. The previous record stood at 46 strokes in 12 fairways. Tayebwa attributed his success to good training and encouragement from the team manager.
“I’ve been having good training ever since I started playing wood ball three years ago. Secondly, our team manager Godfrey Bukenya has always encouraged and motivated us to work hard and excel amidst several challenges”, Rodgers Tayebwa a plumbing teacher at Kisubi Technical Institute told entebbenews.
Sombe Robert Patrick and Ssembajjwe John Bosco from Cipla Chemicals Industries woodball club claimed the men’s doubles category with a total of 46 strokes.
In the women’s category, Cipla Quality Chemicals tallied a total of 235 strokes to claim their first trophy at Corporate Wood ball event and majestically ended UNEB Woodball Team’s winning streak this year. UNEB Finished in second place with 235 strokes. Kisubi Technical Institute and Buganda Land Board (BLB) finished in third and fourth place with 240 and 254 strokes respectively. Cipla will look to defend this trophy when they host the 4th Corporate Woodball Circuit on August 06, 2017.
Sophia Namuddu (Ndejje Corporate Wood ball Club) won the Women’s singles category with 50 strokes while Winnie Nakamatte (Cipla) and Justine Balemesa (UNEB) finished in second and third place with 52 and 54 strokes respectively.
Sophia Namuddu paired up with experienced Rose Matovu (Ndejje Corporate Wood ball Club) to claim the Women’s Doubles category with 59 strokes. Agnes Apio and William Eronda from Bank of Uganda Wood ball Club won the mixed doubles category with 54 strokes.
The 3rd Corporate Wood ball Circuit attracted participants from 13 clubs namely Bank of Uganda, Botladz Woodball Club, Buganda Land Board, Centenary Bank Ltd, Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Ltd, Kisubi Corporate Woodball Club, Ndejje Corporate Woodball Club, Proway Woodball Club, Reigners Woodball Club, St. Mark’s College Namagoma, Stroke Woodball Club, Uganda National Examinations Board, Zoe Woodball Club.
