Two notorious robbers identified as Ibrahim Matovu and Emmanuel Nyanzi were on Tuesday convicted to 13years in prison by High court Judge Dr. Justice Joseph Murangira over three counts of aggravated robbery.
The duo committed the offences on 30, July, 2013 at Ngobe zone in Kajjansi Town council where they robbed Sophia Nagiita and Peninah Mugume mobile phones, DVD player, laptops and cash amounting to Shs1.26m.
While delivering the sentence to the convicts, Justice Murangira told court that cases of aggravated robbery are rampant in the country and that the citizens of Uganda need to be protected from wrong doers. He added that the convicts were not remorseful at all throughout trial and to make matters worse the victims whom they robbed sustained severe injuries during the robbery and that their children who witnessed the robbery were traumatized.
The Judge further noted that instead of sentencing the convicts to life imprisonment, court has exercised some leniency by sentencing the convicts to 13years in prison.
