The Entebbe Municipality Deputy RDC Nalongo Rose Kirabira has defended the strict passport control measures that her office put in place following different reports that Ugandans who travel to different Middle East countries for Kyeyo Jobs are being sold into modern day slavery in addition to being sexually abused (girls) and tortured. RDC Kirabira who was addressing a Baraza (open forum meeting) at the Kiwafu Play Ground on Monday categorically stated that she will not back down or be threatened by different individuals who complain about the strict passport control measures.
“So many residents complain that my office is denying people passports, I want to make myself clear that I’m not fighting anyone and I’m not against anyone who applies for a passport. My role is to ensure that anyone who applies for a passport will be secure and safe in the country they travel to. Besides having a list of companies authorized to take people abroad, my office asks the passport applicant a series of questions before signing on the forms to avoid sending our sons and daughters in harm’s way. Many have been conned of large sums of money by conmen in fake overseas jobs while others have been tortured, dehumanized and used as sex slaves”, RDC Kirabira stressed.

He urged all the Kitooro market vendors to transfer to the tentative Lubiigi Market located near the Division ‘B’ offices to give way for the construction of the New Kitooro Market.
On his part Mayor Kayanja appealed to all Entebbe residents to actively participate in community work (Bulungi Bwansi) when they are called upon.
